Musselburgh in East Lothian, Scotland sits on the coast of the Firth of Forth about six miles east of Edinburgh. The River Esk flows through the town to Fisherrow Harbour and the area wears its history plainly: an ancient royal burgh with old weaving and fishing roots and nearby historic sites such as the battlefield at Pinkie Cleugh and the village of Inveresk.
The town punches above its weight culturally and recreationally - Musselburgh Links is regarded as one of the world’s oldest golf courses and Musselburgh Racecourse is among Scotland’s oldest, giving the place a strong sporting identity. Today it functions largely as a commuter town for Edinburgh while retaining local shops, light industry, a working harbour and a close-knit community with a lively calendar of local events.
