Black Isle is a gently rolling peninsula and electoral ward just north of Inverness in the council area of Highland, Scotland. The ward embraces a string of small towns and villages such as Cromarty, Fortrose, Rosemarkie and Avoch, with wide views over the Cromarty and Moray Firths and famous wildlife‑watching at Chanonry Point where bottlenose dolphins are often seen close to shore.
Locally the economy mixes agriculture and crofting with a strong tourism and heritage sector – Fortrose has cathedral ruins, Cromarty retains an 18th‑century townscape, and festivals and local food producers are important to community life. As an electoral ward it returns councillors to the Highland authority and faces the familiar rural issues of transport, housing and services alongside opportunities from nature‑based tourism and small‑scale renewable projects.
