Saltcoats is a seaside town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, Scotland, forming the historic "Three Towns" conurbation with Ardrossan and Stevenston. It still has long sandy beaches, a Victorian promenade and clear views out to the Isle of Arran, with convenient rail links into Glasgow.
Originally named for its salt‑panning industry, the town grew around a busy harbour, coal exports and shipbuilding in the 18th–19th centuries; today it is largely a commuter and coastal community with tourism, local shops and ongoing regeneration projects that reflect both its historic character and post‑industrial challenges. Community groups, seaside events and conservation of older streets help keep a distinct local identity.
