Stevenston is a coastal town on the edge of North Ayrshire in west Scotland, part of the local "Three Towns" cluster with Saltcoats and Ardrossan. It faces the Firth of Clyde with long sandy beaches and views across to the Isle of Arran, and is immediately adjacent to the Ardeer peninsula, a distinctive mix of industrial heritage and coastal habitat.
Historically the town grew around heavy industry and explosives manufacture on Ardeer, later linked to coal and chemical works, and today it retains that working-class heritage while functioning largely as a residential and commuter town for the wider Ayrshire and Glasgow area. Community groups, local sports clubs and coastal conservation projects are active, and the juxtaposition of industrial remnants with dunes, wildlife and shoreline gives Stevenston a character that reflects both its past and its coastal setting.
