Moncreiffe Island, often known locally as Friarton Island, sits in the middle of the River Tay just below the centre of Perth in Perth and Kinross. The long, low-lying landform is a prominent feature of the riverscape, visible from the city and the nearby Friarton Bridge, and it lies beneath the wooded slopes of Moncreiffe Hill.
The island is largely wooded and undeveloped, important for riverine wildlife and informal recreation rather than industry, with reedbeds and waterfowl common and the occasional otter or heron sighting. Its position in the Tay makes it a useful natural marker for navigation and flood flow, and it carries a quiet historical association with the surrounding estates and the riverside communities of Perth.
