Tredegar sits in Blaenau Gwent on the floor of the Sirhowy Valley, with the Sirhowy river running close by. The area combines a compact town centre with former mining terraces and more recent housing, framed by steep wooded hills and disused industrial sites that are now part of local walking routes.
Historically a centre for ironworking and coal, the community has a strong cooperative and labour tradition and is famous as the birthplace of Aneurin Bevan; the town’s medical aid society played a notable role in shaping the ideas behind the National Health Service. Today the ward balances ongoing regeneration, small industrial and retail employment, and active heritage and community organisations that keep its social history alive.
