Pontlottyn is a small former coal‑mining village in the Rhymney Valley within the county borough of Caerphilly, in Wales. Set on the steep sides of the South Wales Coalfield, it looks up to upland moorland and lies close to communities such as Bargoed and Rhymney, with Merthyr Tydfil and Cardiff within commuting distance.
The village grew rapidly in the 19th and early 20th centuries around collieries and retains much industrial heritage alongside rows of terraces, chapels and local pubs. Like many former mining communities it has faced economic challenges since pit closures but maintains a strong local spirit, community clubs and ongoing regeneration efforts.
