Ogmore Valley sits in a steep, wooded valley carved by the River Ogmore within Bridgend county in south Wales. The parish comprises a string of former mining villages such as Nantymoel, Ogmore Vale and Wyndham, with moorland and ridgelines above giving the area a rural feel despite its industrial past.
Once shaped by 19th- and 20th-century coalworking, the community still carries a strong mining heritage in its landscape, local memorials and social life; since pit closures it has become more residential and commuter-orientated while also attracting walkers and cyclists to reclaimed railway routes and upland paths. There is a resilient community identity, ongoing efforts at regeneration and easy access to coastal and lowland amenities around Bridgend and the wider county in Wales.
