Newbridge (Trecceln)

Newbridge is a former mining town in Caerphilly county borough, tucked into the Sirhowy Valley of the South Wales Valleys just to the north of Blackwood. The town sits among steep, wooded hills and benefits from nearby green spaces such as the Sirhowy Valley Country Park, giving it a mix of post‑industrial character and accessible countryside.

Like many valley communities, Newbridge was shaped by coal and iron industries and carries that heritage in its terraces, community buildings and local memorials. In recent decades the area has seen housing and retail change alongside community regeneration; there remains a strong local culture around grassroots sport and clubs (including the town’s rugby side) and many residents commute into larger centres such as Cardiff while keeping a distinct valley identity.
