Oakdale is a former coal‑mining village in the Sirhowy Valley, within the county borough of Caerphilly in Wales. Originally developed as a planned model village for colliery families in the early 20th century, it still shows that industrial heritage in its layout and community buildings; the pit itself closed in the late 20th century and much of the former industrial landscape has been reclaimed by green spaces and walking trails.
Today Oakdale retains a strong community atmosphere with local clubs, a rugby culture and village amenities, while many residents commute to nearby towns such as Blackwood, Newport and Cardiff. The village often points to its mining past in local events and heritage projects, reflecting the wider social and cultural history of the South Wales Valleys.
