Argoed is a small village on the edge of the Sirhowy Valley in the county borough of Caerphilly, Wales, lying close to the town of Blackwood. It sits amid the rolling, green hills that fringe the former South Wales Coalfield, so you get a mix of valley scenery and easy access to larger centres - Cardiff and other South Wales towns are within commuting range.
Historically the settlement grew with 19th- and 20th-century mining and related industry, and traces of that industrial past are still visible in the local landscape and built fabric. Today Argoed is largely residential with a strong local community, modest shops and amenities, pubs and volunteer groups; the economy has shifted away from the pits toward services, light industry and commuting, while village life retains a distinct valley character and sense of local history.
