Van is a small parish on the outskirts of Caerphilly in south Wales, sitting on the fringes of the South Wales Valleys. It combines suburban housing and pockets of green space, and benefits from good road and rail links for commuters to Cardiff and Newport, while remaining close to the countryside.
Like many communities in the area, Van bears the imprint of the coal‑ and iron‑working past but today is largely residential with local shops, community groups and a quiet, civic-minded character. Residents often look to neighbouring Caerphilly for larger cultural and historic draws, not least Caerphilly Castle and the town’s strong local traditions such as its cheese festival and heritage events.
