Trethomas is a small former coal‑mining village in the county borough of Caerphilly in Wales, situated a few miles north‑east of Cardiff and close to neighbouring communities like Bedwas and Machen. It grew up in the 19th century around local collieries and still shows traces of that industrial past in its terraces and street plan, sitting on the edge of the post‑industrial valleys that characterise the area.
Today Trethomas has a strong local community with clubs, a village hall and the well‑known Trethomas Bluebirds football club, while many residents commute to larger towns for work. The village benefits from nearby countryside and recreational areas such as Cwmcarn and Caerphilly Mountain, giving a mix of close‑knit social life and easy access to outdoor walking and cycling routes.
