Abergwili is a small village and community in Carmarthenshire, Wales, set where the River Gwili meets the River Towy and just a short distance from Carmarthen. Its riverside setting, lanes and footpaths make it popular for peaceful walks, birdwatching and fishing, giving a distinctly rural, scenic feel despite the proximity of the county town.
The village is best known for the historic Bishop’s Palace, the former residence of the Bishops of St Davids, which survives with gardens and diocesan collections and contributes to the local sense of history. Economically it remains largely rural and service‑orientated - farming, small local businesses and commuters to nearby Carmarthen - and the community retains a strong Welsh character with bilingual life and local events.
