Ferryside is a small coastal village in Carmarthenshire, Wales, sitting on the northern bank of the estuary of the River Tywi opposite Llansteffan. The shore combines a small sandy beach with extensive mudflats and saltmarsh, giving good birdwatching and estuarine views, including the dramatic ruins of Llansteffan Castle on the opposite headland. The village is served by Ferryside railway station on the West Wales line, providing links to Carmarthen and Swansea and making it popular with both commuters and holiday visitors.
Historically Ferryside grew around a ferry crossing and local maritime trades; today its economy mixes small-scale fishing, agriculture, tourism and residential life, with a noticeable number of holiday lets and retirement homes. The quiet riverside atmosphere, sailing, coastal walks and wildlife are the main draws, and the community reflects the familiar balance of seasonal visitors and a close-knit local population found in many Welsh coastal villages.
