The village and wider community of Dolbenmaen sits in rural Gwynedd, in the historic county of Caernarfonshire, inland from the Llyn coast between the seaside towns of Criccieth and Porthmadog. It occupies rolling countryside and moorland, with far-reaching views towards Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula, making it popular with walkers and anyone after a quieter base for exploring the area.
Locally the economy remains rooted in agriculture, but tourism, outdoor recreation and small-scale crafts also play a part, and the community retains a strong Welsh-speaking identity. There are village halls, a parish church and scattered hamlets rather than a single urban centre, and you’ll find traditional buildings and earthwork remains that reflect a long rural history without losing touch with contemporary community life.
