Llanfrothen is a small rural community in Gwynedd, set on the fringes of Snowdonia and not far from the coastal town of Porthmadog. The parish is centred on the tidy, medieval St Brothen's Church, and is known for a notable 19th-century burial dispute often referred to as the Llanfrothen Burial Case, which reflected wider tensions between the Anglican Church and Nonconformists across Wales.
The landscape of sheep-grazed hills and wooded valleys underpins a largely agricultural economy, while tourism and outdoor pursuits - walking, birdwatching and visits to nearby slate heritage sites and the Ffestiniog Railway - supplement local incomes. Socially, the area retains a strong Welsh-speaking identity and a close-knit village feel, with traditional customs and community events still important to local life.
