Criccieth in Gwynedd, Wales is a compact seaside town sited on a rocky headland with a long sandy bay, crowned by the dramatic ruins of Criccieth Castle, built in the early 13th century and later involved in the Edwardian campaigns. The headland gives wide views across Cardigan Bay towards the Llyn Peninsula and the peaks of Snowdonia, and the bay is one of the places along the coast where dolphins are often spotted from shore.
Once a Victorian resort, Criccieth today mixes holiday accommodation and independent shops with a strong local community and a high proportion of Welsh speakers; tourism, hospitality and local services dominate the economy. The town is a popular base for coastal walking on the Wales Coast Path, sailing or simply enjoying the promenade and small harbour, and it keeps a quietly cultural, village atmosphere outside the summer season.
