Pentraeth is a small village on the eastern side of the Isle of Anglesey, set just inland from the broad sands of Red Wharf Bay (Welsh Traeth Coch) and within easy reach of Benllech. Its Welsh name, roughly "end of the beach", reflects the low-lying coastal landscape of dunes, salt marsh and mudflats that attract walkers and birdwatchers, and which connect into the island’s coastal paths.
Historically a rural settlement with medieval roots, Pentraeth still feels like a traditional Anglesey community: agriculture and small local businesses remain important, while seasonal tourism swells numbers in summer. The village retains a strong Welsh-speaking identity, a parish church and community hall, a pub and primary school, and acts as a quiet hub for people commuting to larger island towns such as Llangefni or Holyhead.
