Portskewett sits on the edge of the Severn Estuary in Monmouthshire, Wales, occupying a mix of rolling farmland and coastal saltmarsh. The shoreline gives dramatic tidal views and plenty of birdlife, and the powerful estuary tides are part of the same system that produces the famous Severn Bore upstream; the western portal of the Severn Tunnel and the sight of the Severn Bridge are close by, with good road and rail links to nearby towns such as Caldicot and cities beyond like Newport.
The village has deep roots - an ancient parish church and archaeological finds point to long settlement and the area was once an important crossing point before modern bridges and tunnels. Today the local economy remains largely agricultural with some commuting and small local enterprises, and community life is quiet and focused on village amenities, countryside recreation and the estuary’s natural attractions.
