Mynachlog-ddu is a small, rural parish in north Pembrokeshire set on the southern fringes of the Preseli Hills. The landscape is a mix of rolling moorland and pasture with nearby high ground such as Foel Drygarn, and the area is peppered with prehistoric cairns and hillforts - the Preseli outcrops here are also famous as the source of the bluestones used at Stonehenge.
Historically a Welsh-speaking farming community, the local economy remains largely agricultural with an increasing seasonal boost from walkers, heritage visitors and rural tourism. Community life centres on village institutions, chapels and local events, and the place-name, which translates roughly as “black monastic grange”, hints at its long, quiet history.
