Bwlch is a small village in Powys, Wales, sitting in the hollow of a mountain pass on the edge of the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) National Park. Its name literally means “pass”, and the spot is prized for wide, dramatic views across the Usk Valley and towards the distinctive peak of Sugar Loaf, making it a popular base for walkers, cyclists and riders exploring the hills.
Life in Bwlch remains largely rural and community‑centred, with farming and tourism forming the economic backbone; a handful of guesthouses, local services and outdoor‑activity providers cater to visitors. The pass has long been a route through the hills, and the surrounding slopes show traces of older human activity, so the village mixes a quiet, lived‑in charm with easy access to historic and natural sights in the national park.
