The communities of Llangattock and Llangynidr sit in rolling countryside in Powys, Wales, tucked into the Usk valley on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The ward is visually dramatic: Llangattock is backed by the limestone escarpment and Llangattock Mountain, home to prehistoric cairns and extensive caves such as Ogof y Daren Cilau, while Llangynidr is famed for its long multi‑arched stone bridge over the River Usk and the towpath of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.
Locally the economy mixes hill farming, small businesses and tourism, with walkers, climbers and cavers drawn to the natural and industrial archaeology of old quarries, limekilns and tramways. Community life is village‑centred, with halls, pubs and seasonal events, and most residents look to nearby towns such as Crickhowell and Brecon for wider services.
