The village and surrounding parish of Llansilin lies in north‑east Powys, close to the border with England. It occupies rolling, often upland countryside of small fields, hedgerows and woodlands, with scattered farms and hamlets; the landscape attracts walkers and birdwatchers and offers views towards nearby market towns such as Oswestry.
Historically the community grew up around a church dedicated to Saint Silin and retains a distinctly rural character, with agriculture - particularly sheep and hill farming - forming the economic backbone, supplemented by small local businesses and some tourism. Local life is centred on the church and village facilities, and the area reflects the mixed Welsh–English cultural heritage typical of the borderlands.
