Llanyrafon is a largely residential suburb on the eastern edge of Cwmbran in Torfaen, South Wales, developed chiefly as part of the post‑war Cwmbran New Town. It sits beside the substantial green space of Llanyrafon Country Park, with lakes, woodlands and waymarked trails that are popular for walking, informal fishing and local events, giving the ward a semi‑rural feel despite its proximity to the town centre.
The area is predominantly a commuter and family neighbourhood, with a mix of housing and local shops supported by nearby facilities such as the Cwmbran Centre; many residents travel for work to Newport, Cardiff and Bristol thanks to good road and rail links. The name comes from the Welsh element "llan" (church) combined with a personal name, and community groups and volunteers play an active role in maintaining the park and local social activities within the historic county of Monmouthshire.
