Ponthir is a small village in Torfaen in South Wales, sitting on the edge of the Usk Valley and a short drive from the larger centres of Cwmbran and Newport. The setting is gently rural, with rolling farmland, local footpaths and a village feel while remaining within easy reach of the transport links and jobs of the valleys and the coast.
Historically the area was shaped by the wider industrial story of south Wales, but today Ponthir is largely residential with a small local centre, a primary school and active community groups. Rugby and village halls remain focal points for local life, and many residents commute to nearby towns while valuing the quieter, community-oriented character of the village.
