Dinas Powys is a semi-rural village and community in the Vale of Glamorgan, lying just west of Cardiff and close to Barry. It benefits from good rail and road links into the city so many residents commute, yet retains a green, coastal fringe with elevated ground that gives pleasant views across the Bristol Channel and the Severn Estuary.
The name means ‘fort’ in Welsh and the hill above the settlement preserves prehistoric and medieval earthworks where important early-medieval archaeological finds were made, giving the place a long heritage. Today it combines independent shops, pubs, community events and sports clubs (rugby and cricket), and tends to attract families and professionals who appreciate a village atmosphere with easy access to urban amenities.
