Sully and Lavernock sit on the southern coast of the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales, looking out over the Severn Estuary. The landscape is a mix of chalk cliffs and salt marsh, with the tidal Sully Island and the headland at Lavernock Point providing popular walking routes and good birdwatching; Lavernock is also noted for the pioneering 1897 wireless tests to Flat Holm and for surviving coastal defences and batteries.
Locally the two villages combine a quiet, community-centred life with easy commuting into Cardiff, supported by a village school, shops and a golf club, while tourism brings seasonal visitors for beaches, picnics and coastal geology. The social fabric is kept alive by village halls, pubs and events that celebrate the area’s maritime history and rural coastal character.
