Located on the western edge of the Vale of Glamorgan in south Wales, St. Bride's Major is a chiefly rural coastal community sitting above the limestone cliffs of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The community includes the small settlements of St. Bride's Major, Ogmore-by-Sea and Southerndown, with sandy bays, the mouth of the River Ogmore and sweeping headlands that attract walkers, fossil hunters and surfers.
Historically the area bears Norman and medieval traces - notably the ruins of Ogmore Castle and an old parish church - and its economy has long mixed farming, quarrying and, increasingly, tourism. Day-trippers from Cardiff and Bridgend, local fĂȘtes, coastal conservation projects and a quiet village atmosphere all help define the social life of the community.
