Froncysyllte is a small village in Wrexham county borough in north‑east Wales, sitting above the River Dee valley at one end of the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The aqueduct, designed by Thomas Telford and completed in the early 19th century, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and draws walkers, canal boats and photographers to the dramatic limestone scenery, with Llangollen and the Dee valley close by.
The village has a strong Welsh cultural identity and is particularly known for its long‑standing male voice choir, which has brought the place wider recognition. Historically shaped by the canal and local quarrying, Froncysyllte today balances tourism, a few local services and commuting, retaining a tight‑knit community feel while catering for visitors to the aqueduct and surrounding countryside.
