Gwenfro sits to the north of Wrexham town centre and takes its name from the River Gwenfro, which threads through green corridors in the area and played a part in the ward’s 19th‑century industrial growth. Former mills and mining-related activity helped shape the terraces and street pattern; much of the heavy industry has gone and the river is now appreciated for local wildlife and riverside walks.
Today Gwenfro is largely residential - a mix of Victorian terraces and later housing - with pockets of light industry, local shops and community facilities, and easy access to central Wrexham and transport links. It is represented on Wrexham County Borough Council, and local groups are active on matters from regeneration and heritage to improving green spaces along the river.
