Overton and Maelor South is a largely rural ward in Wrexham County Borough, sitting on the Welsh–English border around the village of Overton-on-Dee. The landscape is gently undulating farmland and small lanes with a close connection to the nearby River Dee, giving it a quiet, cross-border character and easy commuting links into Wrexham and neighbouring English towns.
Locally the area is notable for its strong village identity and history - Overton-on-Dee is famed for its ancient yew trees around the church and for surviving as part of the historic detached Maelor area of Flintshire until local government reorganisation. The economy is dominated by agriculture and small businesses, with community life centred on village halls, pubs and walking routes rather than large industry.
