Westhoughton is a town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, sitting on the edge of the West Pennine Moors between Bolton and Wigan. It has a mixed suburban and semi‑rural character, with pockets of green space and good commuter links such as Daisy Hill railway station and easy road access into Manchester.
Once shaped by coal mining and Lancashire industry, the community still bears reminders of that past - most notably the memorial to the 1910 Pretoria Pit disaster. Nowadays Westhoughton is largely residential with local shops, sports clubs and community groups, some light industry and a strong local identity rooted in its industrial heritage.
