Ilkley is a riverside town and civil parish in the metropolitan district of Bradford, West Yorkshire, sitting on the north bank of the River Wharfe at the edge of Ilkley Moor. The town is famous for its gritstone outcrops, notably the Cow and Calf, its Victorian spa heritage and the remains of a Roman fort, and it is forever linked to the folk song "On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at".
Today Ilkley combines a strong local arts and café culture - highlighted by events such as the Ilkley Literature Festival - with a tourism economy built on walking, rock-climbing and spa history; it also functions as a desirable commuter base for nearby Leeds and parts of Bradford. The area is generally affluent, popular with families for its schools and green space, and is a gateway for excursions into the Yorkshire Dales.
