The civil parish centres on Upwood and the two small villages of Great Raveley and Little Raveley in rural Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, a few miles north‑east of Huntingdon. The character is largely agricultural, with hedged lanes and arable fields giving way to cottage clusters; in recent decades a number of residents commute to nearby towns and cities while enjoying the quieter village life.
The area wears its history visibly: RAF Upwood was a significant 20th‑century station and several of its buildings survive, alongside an older parish church and traces of medieval settlement. Community life remains village‑centred, with a village hall, local events and footpaths for walkers, and a mix of small farms and local businesses forming the economic backbone.
