Bourn is a small, rural village in South Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire, England, lying a short drive west of Cambridge and close to the newer settlement of Cambourne. It sits among rolling arable countryside with the Bourn Brook running through and a network of public footpaths, giving a strong sense of place and countryside access despite its nearness to the city. The village centre has traditional stone and brick cottages, a village hall, a primary school and the familiar rhythms of a close-knit community.
Historically Bourn has older buildings and a parish church that testify to its long roots, and during the Second World War the nearby Bourn Airfield (often referred to as RAF Bourn) played a military role and is still remembered locally. One of the village’s best-known features today is Bourn Hall Clinic, a pioneering fertility centre that draws international visitors and contributes to the local economy, while agriculture and small businesses remain important to village life. Community events, a pub and active local groups keep social life lively for residents.
