Blackhall Colliery is a small former mining village on the Durham coast in County Durham, England, sitting by cliffs and a stretch of beach with views over the North Sea. It lies next to the rocky shoreline of Blackhall Rocks and is roughly midway between Seaham and Hartlepool, forming part of a chain of coastal communities linked by footpaths and local transport.
Founded in the early 20th century around its pit, Blackhall Colliery developed the close-knit social fabric typical of coalfield villages; the mine’s closure brought economic hardship but also a strong sense of heritage seen in memorials, clubs and community projects. Today the village mixes that industrial legacy with seaside character, quiet residential streets and local efforts at regeneration and conservation of the coastal environment.
