Dalton-le-Dale is a small, mainly rural civil parish in County Durham, in the north-east of England. It sits inland from the Durham coast and is within easy reach of coastal and urban centres such as Seaham, Durham and Sunderland, set among lanes, arable fields and hedged paddocks that give the area a distinctly agricultural feel.
Historically the community grew from farming with 19th- and 20th-century ties to the wider Durham coalfield, and today it largely combines traditional stone cottages and farmsteads with a commuter population who travel to nearby towns. The parish retains a quiet village character, local social life centred on community amenities and access to countryside walks and coastal attractions close by.
