Seaton with Slingley is a small civil parish on the eastern edge of County Durham, a short distance inland from the coast and the nearby town of Seaham. It includes the hamlets of Seaton and Slingley, set among rolling farmland and fields that give way towards the clifftops and walking routes of the Durham Heritage Coast, making it popular with walkers and birdwatchers.
Historically the area has agricultural roots with ties to the wider coal and coastal economies of the region, but today life is largely rural and residential, with many people commuting to larger centres such as Sunderland and Durham. Community life is typical of a small parish, centred on local clubs, the parish council and countryside pursuits rather than major commercial activity.
