Ferryhill is a small town and civil parish in County Durham, England, set on the old Durham coalfield and within easy reach of Durham city and regional road links. It grew rapidly in the 19th century with the arrival of coal mining and the railway, and its street pattern and terraces still reflect that industrial past.
Today the town combines that mining heritage with a quieter, largely residential character: community groups, local shops and parks play a big part in everyday life, while regeneration projects and commuting to nearby centres have reshaped the local economy since the pits closed. Visitors will notice the mix of working‑class history, reclaimed green spaces and a strong sense of local identity.
