Broughton Moor is a small village and civil parish in Cumberland in north‑west England, lying a short distance inland from the Solway coast and close to Maryport. It occupies gently rolling farmland on the Solway Plain, so on clear days there are views towards the Solway Firth and the distant Lakeland fells, and the area is popular with walkers and birdwatchers passing between coastal paths and the nearby towns.
Historically the village expanded as a 19th‑ and early‑20th‑century mining community, and traces of that industrial past - miners’ terraces and former pit sites - still characterise parts of the settlement. Since the pits closed the local economy has shifted towards agriculture, light industry and commuting, while a small but active community life centred on a village hall and local events preserves a close‑knit, rural social feel.
