Lowca is a small village and civil parish on the Cumbrian coast in historic Cumberland, a few miles north-east of Whitehaven and overlooking the Irish Sea. Perched on the coastal fringe, it offers rugged sea views and easy access to local coastal paths and the surrounding countryside.
Historically the village grew up around 19th‑century coal mining, coking and engineering, and traces of that industrial past - old pits, engine works and spoil heaps - still punctuate the landscape. Today Lowca is largely residential with a strong local identity, many residents commuting to nearby towns like Workington, while walkers and industrial‑heritage enthusiasts visit for the coastal scenery and remnants of West Cumbrian industry.
