Tibshelf is a former colliery village and civil parish in the district of Bolsover, in Derbyshire, lying between Alfreton and Sutton-in-Ashfield on the edge of the East Midlands. The landscape is a mix of post-industrial green space and residential streets: restored pit ponds and scrubby meadowland form parts of the well-used Five Pits Trail, making the parish popular with walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers while still feeling within easy commuting distance of Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby.
Historically rooted in coal mining, Tibshelf retains a strong local identity shaped by that industrial past, with visible reclamation of former colliery sites into country parks and community amenities. Today the economy is largely mixed - local shops, small businesses and light industry combine with a significant number of residents who travel out for work - while an active community life, parish organisations and recreational groups keep a village spirit alive despite wider regional change.
