Curbar is a small village and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, set within the Peak District National Park. It sits beneath the dramatic gritstone escarpment of Curbar Edge, a much‑loved spot for walkers and rock climbers that gives wide views across the Derwent Valley and Hope Valley.
The parish retains a distinctly rural character - stone cottages, a village pub and community events - and its economy now mixes traditional farming with tourism and commuting to nearby settlements. The edges and surrounding moorland have attracted outdoor enthusiasts since Victorian times, while traces of prehistoric activity on the high ground underline a long human presence in the landscape.
