Shardlow is a historic canalside village in South Derbyshire, Derbyshire, England, sited where the Trent and Mersey Canal meets the River Trent, a short hop from the city of Derby. Its riverside and canal geography gave it strategic importance as a trans‑shipment point in the late 18th and 19th centuries, linking inland waterways to the river network.
Much of the old wharfside infrastructure survives - warehouses, lime kilns and narrow streets - so the village is a noted conservation area and popular with boaters and visitors. The local economy today mixes heritage tourism, canalside pubs and marinas with commuting to nearby towns, and the community retains a strong sense of its industrial and waterways past.
