Brampford Speke is a small village in East Devon, Devon, England, set in the attractive Exe Valley on the west bank of the River Exe, a short drive from Exeter. Tucked into a steep, wooded valley with winding lanes and traditional stone and occasional thatch, it’s a pleasant spot for walkers and wildlife watchers.
The village name remembers the medieval Speke family who held the manor, and the parish church of St Peter has medieval origins with later restoration. Historically agricultural, Brampford Speke today combines farming with small local businesses and commuters to nearby towns; it also recalls the old Exe Valley railway line, whose small halt closed in the mid‑20th century, and retains an active community life around the church and village hall.
