Tipton St. John is a small village in East Devon, Devon, England, set beside the winding River Otter and surrounded by rolling farmland. It sits inland between Ottery St Mary and the East Devon coast around Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton, and the river and nearby lanes make it a quiet spot popular with walkers, anglers and anyone after a slice of rural Devon charm, with a number of older stone and thatched cottages giving a historic feel.
Historically the village was served by a station on the Sidmouth branch line until closures in the 1960s, and today it remains a small, largely residential and agricultural community with some holiday accommodation and local services. Village life tends to centre on the village hall and traditional local meeting places, reflecting a close‑knit rural social scene rather than any large commercial or industrial presence.
