Tiverton is a market town and civil parish in Mid Devon, Devon, sitting on the River Exe amid rolling countryside. It has a compact historic centre with a Norman motte-and-bailey at Tiverton Castle and a long industrial heritage: woollen cloth and, from the early 19th century, lace-making after John Heathcoat moved his works here. Nearby attractions such as the remnants of the Grand Western Canal and the Victorian country house at Knightshayes Court give the area a mix of industrial archaeology and attractive walking country.
Today Tiverton still serves as a retail and service centre for the surrounding farms, with light industry, tourism and education - notably Blundell's School - playing a part in local life. The Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life preserves the town’s industrial past, while good road links and Tiverton Parkway nearby make it a practical commuter base as well as a lively community hub with regular markets and events.
