Braunton West & Georgeham sits on the northern edge of North Devon, taking in the western side of Braunton and the pretty village of Georgeham close to the coast. The ward enjoys easy access to long sandy beaches such as Saunton Sands and the dune system of Braunton Burrows, the latter forming part of the UNESCO-designated North Devon Biosphere Reserve and drawing walkers, birdwatchers and surfers to the area.
Locally the economy is a mix of agriculture, tourism and small businesses, with many residents commuting to Barnstaple for work. Social life centres on village institutions - churches, pubs and community events - and the area balances a strong conservation interest with pressures from holiday homes and seasonal visitors, giving it a character that is both rural and distinctly coastal.
