Sixpenny Handley is a small village and civil parish in east Dorset, England, sitting on chalk downland within the Cranborne Chase area. The surrounding downs are scattered with prehistoric barrows and earthworks, so it feels very much part of an ancient rural landscape and is popular with walkers and horse riders.
The name goes back to the Saxon hundred of Sixpenny and the village retains a long agricultural tradition. A devastating fire in 1892 led to extensive rebuilding, so the mix of older and Victorian-era buildings reflects that past. Local life revolves around farming, small businesses, a primary school and the village hall, while visitors come for country pubs, equestrian activity and the tranquillity of the Cranborne Chase area; the wider parish is known as Sixpenny Handley and Pentridge, roughly between Salisbury and Blandford Forum.
